ABOUT
Excel for Human Services I is specifically designed for homeless and housing service providers, and others who use human-centered data to make decisions. This 3-session course is geared towards people with little to some experience with Microsoft Excel. With years of experience teaching homeless service providers and HMIS administrators data analytics, we have created a custom training that will leave you with a foundational understanding of how to clean and analyze human-centric data in Excel.
Sick of spending hours cleaning data by hand? Not sure when to use what formula and how?
Learn our tips and tricks for using your time effectively and efficiently – get better results faster! You will leave the training knowing how to clean and filter data, use basic Excel functions to do foundational statistical analysis and create charts, how to pivot data and create conditional formatting.

Hanna Andress (she/they)
With over a decade of experience working with Excel and other spreadsheet software, I’ve used these tools to tackle diverse projects—from creating patient outcomes dashboards to managing departmental budgets and cleaning data from the Homelessness Management Information System (HMIS). Whether it’s for work or personal projects like balancing budgets or for planning trips, Excel has always been my go-to tool for finding solutions.
In addition to my hands-on experience, I’ve taught introductory and intermediate Excel courses for four years, helping others navigate health information data during my time at a hospital authority. My approach to teaching is centered on encouraging curiosity. I believe that the best way to learn Excel is by first asking meaningful questions about your data and then using the software to uncover the answers. My goal as a facilitator is to not only equip participants with the technical skills they need but also to inspire them to explore their data with confidence and curiosity.
